Test Ducati Hypermotard 796



I was told: "You'll see, it's not terrible, the Ducati Hypermotard 796, it's hard to understand, plus it does not behave like a supermoto. So I went to fetch her, and we immediately hit it off. Nearly 700 miles later, we were inseparable. Clearly, we should not listen to "other", and go his own head. It's a bit what with his Ducati bikes for that matter, no? And it is good, the proof of the motorcycle or the driver, we do not know who ultimately is the brat!

The Hypermotard is a bike no matter what happens to older children, literally as figuratively. Because it already is for bikers over 1, 70 meters, then because it has all of a toy, with its minimalist side and his small tank of 12.4 liters (about 180 km Self ...). Not to mention the complete lack of practicality (no under-seat storage, not enough to carry an anti-theft, etc.).. Otherwise, it would not be funny ... Finally, it is a toy because it is a motorcycle for the simple pleasure and so special to drive or fly (and thus more restrictive in its use, whatever ...).
A right mixture for pleasure


The Hypermotard 796 is what happens on two wheels unusual but accessible when you think, whether it be financial ($ 12436.77 ($ 12436.77 (€ 8,990)) in September 2010), ergonomics or motorization. The seat height of 825 mm is in fact not unreasonable for a driver of 1.70 meters and more (my 1.80 meter is comfortable and my feet touch the ground), and despite a lower handlebar as the sister 1100 Evo MS, I found the driving position is both effective and enjoyable. In the end, all is pleasant as a roadster, the legs are even more relaxed, in short, is comfortable, while remaining trailisant in mind. A two causes in a setting that speaks


The new engine block of 803 cm3 is the same as the Monster 796 (link). We must recognize that this twin is born! If it is not hyper demonstrative under what there is a little higher in the range of Ducati, the Hypermotard engine 796 is however, very comfortable to operate, particularly with the sprocket box 14 teeth instead of the 15 original. Choice "imposed" by Ducati France, which endows the bike park press a little more nervousness. The plans are mid and full recovery and health, we appreciate the range of 3-7000 rpm, where there is a small peak of character with the approach of maximum power and break 9000 rpm min. A roadster look supermoto


We may use and abuse shamelessly with this engine, whatever the roads. City, country roads ... The Hypermotard 796 offers rare versatility and a great ability to engage a corner on the other (less progressive than the Monster 796 and more agile).
In the attack, she behaves like a roadster or a sports car to the limit, but never as a supermotard (for the common man). For two reasons: the ground clearance and tire mounted in the test. The smoke box of the catalyst effect quickly rubs on the right side when you take the speed and angle (compression of the rear shock). Nothing dangerous, but the ground clearance limits the supermoto style. Nothing more. Another reason for longer valid: the bike is much less pleasant open corner with footrests that rub it does is secure the driver opening the leg or hip. Here, one can ask what we want. The tires are also very pleasant as such, but certainly no stranger to this phenomenon. Our test model was in fact equipped with Pirelli Diablo Rosso at least sympathetic, but perhaps not best suited to the Hypermotard and its suspension as they were settled. They participate surely felt comfortable, the Hypermotard 796 with the passage of an agreement of suspensions and setting intermediate between flexibility and firmness, but the bike was undergoing small movements parasites when the soil was licking footrest.

If the big Hypermotard front shipped in turns, forcing them to widen the path on the 796, it remains accurate in all circumstances. An asset that allows a sporty driving style to keep control. And when optimism is in order, you better have good brakes. On this side, have no fear: the entire front brake Brembo 4-piston radially mounted discs and 305 mm a good fit and move at all!What plant literally braking ... The attack is neutral, but the strength is there who just stop all the elk. Great in the dry and when we exercise discretion, surely a little more concern for the brakemen lambda in the wet. That said, feedback is compelling and we appreciate the sensitivity for any occasion.
Certainly, Highway emphasizes the protection of the Hypermotard minimalist, but it goes straight and without much turmoil with the cap serving as a beacon of good deflector. It thus becomes possible to support a trip of a hundred kilometers, boredom outweighing the possible fatigue. By cons, it will accept the knees apart by wind and relaxed ride. Not insurmountable.

So still that little worry of the Hypermotard mirrors clean. Grafted with handlebar and acting as barrier and hand signals, they are large and exceed copiously once opened. A disability in back file (it folds in one, then two and then everything goes better), but also above 130 km / h as they retreated. Again, when I tell you it is not meant to be practical ...
